Winter tires: are they worth it?

Posted: Oct 22, 2018

It may only be October, but winter is definitely on its way – and for drivers, this is the time to consider whether to use winter tires or all-season tires. There are many pros and cons to each option but owning winter tires would not be wasted in Calgary as we are prone to having extreme winter weather that can last for months at a time.

Winter tires can significantly improve your vehicle’s driving ability in snow and ice because of its special treads, which are larger in depth and have better traction on slippery roads. Winter tires can prevent your vehicle from sliding too much when you’re driving and breaking on icy or snow-covered roads. While the main roads and highways are usually cleared regularly, many of the residential areas of the city have to wait weeks before the snow is removed and can be dangerous to travel on. Even when snow is cleared away and gravel is put on, patches of the road can still be icy. If you have to travel regularly, or plan to take winter road trip, there is always a potential for a surprise snow storm that can make roads difficult to travel on without the increased grip from winter tires.

Winter tires also have an added bonus of increasing the lifespan of your tires. Snowy conditions can last from October to March, which is a significant amount of time when you are not using your regular tires. At the same time, your winter tires aren’t being used during the spring and summer, which means each set can almost double their life span.

While winter tires certainly have many benefits to them, especially with the weather we have in Calgary, there are not completely infallible. The treads on winter tires can increase their grip on snow and ice, but they can be difficult to handle and will not feel the same driving as all-season tires. Winter tires aren’t made out of the same kind of rubber as all-seasons, because they require a softer rubber that can withstand extremely cold temperatures. Although this means that they work well in -40 C weather, it also means that they wear easily if you drive them in warmer conditions. As a result, you have no choice but to swap out your tires at the end of the season.

Having two sets of tires can increase their lifespan, but it is a big financial commitment to purchase two sets of tires for your vehicle. When you use winter tires, they really only work properly if all four tires on your vehicle are winter tires. It can be expensive to purchase all new tires for your vehicle and pay to have the current ones taken off and replaced. As well, you will need to pay to store your tires because they can take up a lot of room in your garage or shed, and they can wear out if they are not stored properly. Most dealerships and tire service companies can offer storage for your tires.

Depending on the features of your vehicle and its handling capabilities, you may find that the vehicle has good traction on snow and ice even without winter tires. Some vehicles even have “snow modes” which starts your vehicle in second or third gear instead of first. This helps prevent the amount of torque when your vehicle starts moving after it has been stopped or parked, so your vehicle doesn’t slide as much on the slippery roads. Depending on how your vehicle operates, this may be a feature that you can turn on manually, or one that will come on automatically if sliding is detected.

Regardless of what option you decide to use, it is important to check your tires for wear and damage before winter arrives. If you’re purchasing a used vehicle, take note of the mileage of the car, and what the recommended lifespan of tires is for the particular make and model. This can help you determine if your tires should be replaced or not. You can also check the condition of the tire by using a depth gage and conducing a physical examination of the state of the tires – are any of the treads uneven and does the vehicle feel rough when driving? Depending on how often the tires have been driven on and if they had regular maintenance, tires can last from six to ten years before they need to be replaced. Whether you purchase new tires or not, always make sure they are regularly maintained so you can drive safely in any season.

During the winter, The Auto Club Inc. wants to ensure our customers feels safe and confident behind the wheel. If you’ve purchased a used car and still aren’t sure about winter tires, contact The Auto Club Inc. today to learn more about winter tires and what options work best for your vehicle.

Cannabis will be legal across Canada on October 17

Posted: Oct 9, 2018

While this will have a large impact on how it is consumed, the legalization of cannabis will also affect driving regulations for Calgary residents. Impaired driving doesn’t just involve alcohol, but also cannabis and other drugs. Driving while under the influence of cannabis can potentially put drivers and others at risk because it can reduce drivers’ ability to control their movements and responses behind the wheel. The risk of danger increases if impaired driving involves cannabis in combination with alcohol and other drugs.

In order to combat any risks to drivers and others, changes have been made to driving laws that will affect everyone in Calgary. Legalization may not be here yet, but these new laws are in effect now and drivers should be aware of what it means for them.

Who sets the rules and regulations for impaired driving?

The provincial government is responsible for controlling and regulating different aspects of cannabis legalization, including the impaired driving regulations. This allows them to ensure residents are fully knowledgeable about the risks associated with driving while under the influence of cannabis and enables them to equip law enforcement with the resources they need to enforce regulation.

What are the cannabis driving regulations?

Similar to alcohol and other drugs, driving while impaired by cannabis is a criminal offence in Alberta right now. The driving laws have been updated to reflect legalization and are currently in effect and are similar to the ones that were already in place for alcohol and other illegal drugs. For example, there is zero tolerance for driving while impaired by cannabis for people who have a GDL class driver’s licence. People with a GDL licence will be given the same suspension penalties as people driving while impaired by alcohol, including a 30-day suspension of their licence and week-long vehicle seizure.

Drivers should also be aware that if they are driving over the legal limit for cannabis or another substance like alcohol, they will have their licence suspended for 90 days, have their vehicle confiscated for 3 days, be required to update their driving education, and must participate in the Ignition Interlock Program. In this program, drivers will have a device installed on their ignition for the period of a year, which will prohibit them from being able to start their ignition if their blood drug concentration levels are above the legal limit.

What has changed?

Changes have been made in Alberta to ensure the impaired driving offences and penalties follow the laws put out by the Government of Canada this spring. These new laws are similar to those already established for alcohol but do provide more information on blood drug concentration limits and penalties for not only cannabis, but a combination of cannabis and alcohol.

A chart that describes the limits for blood drug concentration limits can be found here, and more information on the Government of Canada’s drug laws can be found here.

Can you drive with cannabis in the vehicle?

Currently, Canadians can travel with cannabis in their vehicle within the country only if it is stored properly. Cannabis must be stored in closed packaging and placed in an area of the vehicle that is away from the driver and other passengers.

We encourage all drivers to carefully review the changes in legislation and ensure they are safe and responsible drivers. For more information on impaired driving law changes, visit the Government of Alberta’s information page

At The Auto Club Inc., we value the safety of all customers and want to ensure they have the knowledge and resources they need to drive safely. We want to make sure our customers are not only educated on safe driving practices, but also have a vehicle they can trust to get them to their destination safely. Keep your vehicle clean and spotless all year long

Posted: Sept 24, 2018

Vehicles can accumulate a lot of clutter, dirt and dust, especially during the summer months when people are using their vehicles for road trips, camping and other activities. Now that fall is almost here, take the time to go through and clean your vehicle and implement practices to keep your vehicle clean in the future.

Use cloths and warm water to clean up stains and spills

If you have any stains from spilled coffee or food, use a cloth and warm, soapy water to get the residue out of cloth seats or floor mats. Tougher stains may also need a bit of cleaner added to the solution in order to get out. When you’re cleaning, make sure to rub the cloth gently over the affected area, and rinse the area out with a clean cloth and water after to remove any soap  or cleaner residue. It’s also important to make sure the area dries as quickly as possible, so use a paper towel or dry cloth and blot the area until it is dry. If the weather is nice, you can also park your vehicle outside for a couple of hours to dry in the sun.

In the future, clean up messes as soon as they happen

Spills and stains become harder to clean the longer you leave them. Whenever you or anyone else spills food or drinks, make sure to clean them up as soon as it happens. In case of an emergency, consider keeping paper towels or wet wipes in one of your storage compartments for easy clean up whenever you’re on the road. Additionally, you can limit the amount of food or drinks people have in your car or stick to dry goods like pretzels and popcorn and plain drinks like water to prevent the number of spills and stains.

Use a mini-vacuum or small attachment to clean up crumbs and pet fur

Mini-vacuums or small attachment heads are the best way to clear away any food crumbs, dirt from shoes, or pet fur. Cordless units can easily be used in a garage or driveway and can reach smaller and narrower areas. If you’re using a larger unit, be sure to find a small attachment and park your vehicle near an electric outlet. Before you vacuum, take out any floor mats out and shake them to clear away excess dirt and crumbs.

Try adding a backseat covers to your vehicle to cut down messes

To make cleaning up easier, consider purchasing a backseat cover for pets that is waterproof and prevents any fur from collecting on the seats or the floor. To prevent dirt from muddy shoes, try using all-season rubber mats which can be easily cleaned by spraying them with water or shaking them out. Protective mats for the back of the seat can also be purchased to prevent children from getting dirty shoe prints on the seats when they are sitting in a car seat.

Take out miscellaneous items from the floor and compartments

When you’re travelling, it’s easy for items to fall out of your bag or get dropped in between seats. Sometimes, this happens without your notice and items start to collect throughout your car. Take the time to check seat pockets, cupholders, and storage compartments for loose change, hair accessories and small toys that may have been misplaced over the summer. Check in between and underneath seats and try using a ruler or another longer item to pick up items that are out of reach. Tidy any objects like CDs, Kleenex and cleaning wipes that you regularly store, and stock up on anything you may have used during the summer.

Use accessories to prevent objects from falling

To prevent yourself and others from losing objects while you’re in the vehicle, consider using accessories to attach your bag to the seat. Hangers like this one can prevent purses and bags from falling over when you’re making turns or going over rough terrain. Using bins to store bags and loose items can also prevent things from getting lost. Products like this cover the gaps between your seats and seatbelt so you don’t have to worry about losing any other items.

Clear away dust from windows and cupholders

Microfibre cloths and warm water can go a long way to cleaning the interior or your windows, console and seats. Use the cloth to wipe down all the surfaces in your vehicle to get rid of any dust or grime that may have collected over the summer. For the hard to reach areas or grooves in your console, try using a pencil, paint stick or flat screwdriver. Put the cloth over the utensil and use it to clean cupholders, vents and small corners. And old toothbrush can also be wetted down and used to clean away any debris in the cracks on the seat.

Use household items to prevent dust and grime

Silicone baking cups can be placed in cupholders to make it easier to clean out cup holders. To keep on top of dust, keep a cloth stashed in your vehicle and do a quick clean every few weeks. Be aware that darker interiors may show dust and grime more than lighter interiors and may need to be cleaned more often. Q-tips can also be easily stored in your vehicle and used to quickly wipe debris from cup holders and hard to reach places on your console.

Test driving: What to look for when you buy

Posted: Sep 10, 2018

Test driving is an important part of buying a car. It can completely change your opinion of a vehicle and make you re-evaluate what features are important to you. Before you decide on the vehicle you want to purchase, test drive a few different options to get a feel for the vehicle. When you’re in the driver’s seat, keep these important factors in mind:

Check the blind spots

Vehicle blind spots can be a major consideration for drivers. While you’re test driving the vehicle, make sure to practice changing lanes and merging into traffic so you can get a sense of where the blind spots are. It may only take some initial adjustment, or you may need to fix the seat or the mirrors, but some vehicle blind spots make drivers uncomfortable. Treat this test drive as if you were driving the vehicle on a regular day and consider how comfortable you are driving the vehicle and moving through traffic. You may have to try a different model or style of vehicle if the blind spot isn’t working for you, or ask a sales associate to recommend a vehicle that may work better.

Does it feel comfortable?

Not only do you want the blind spot to feel comfortable, you also want the rest of the vehicle to feel right. Commonly used features like the seat and temperature controls, infotainment system, mirrors, wipers and windows are different in each make and model. Familiarize yourself with these controls before you get on the road so you know where everything is and how it works. Once you get on the road, try using the features like you would be using them on your usual commute to see if they’re easy to use – you may notice that some features don’t work as fell for you, or there are controls missing you would prefer to have, like voice control, park assist, or a sunroof.

Bring a second pair of eyes

You may be the one driving the vehicle, but it’s always a good idea to have someone else with you while you are test driving besides the sales associate. Not only will they be able to test out the passenger seats for you, they can also point out different features you may have missed. It’s also helpful to have another person to talk to if you’re unsure about a certain feature of the vehicle, or having a hard time deciding between models. Bringing along a friend or family member can offer you an unbiased opinion. Just keep in mind that while a second opinion can be helpful, your experience and comfort level in the vehicle are the most important, as you are the one who will be driving it most!

Don’t just focus on the driver’s seat

Test driving a vehicle is more than just testing the vehicle on the road – it also involves taking a good look at every aspect of the vehicle. Before you start driving, check to see what the storage and towing capabilities are like – is there a hitch attached to the back? Are there racks on top for storage? Some of these features can be added after your purchase but are important to consider when you’re testing a vehicle. Try opening and closing the trunk, tailgate and doors to see if they are easy to open and enter the vehicle. You may not think much of it, but if smaller children and older adults may have trouble with heavier doors. Test out the passenger seats to see how easy they are to sit in, and if they are difficult to fold down. Make sure to also check available leg room, cup holders, visibility, and comfort in the back.

Test driving is essential when you’re looking for a vehicle, because there are many factors that you may not have considered when browsing through pictures online or looking at a model on the lot. Don’t be afraid to test out more than one vehicle and take notes to compare what features you like about each one. Comfort is the most important factor when choosing a vehicle, so make sure you have a chance to get behind the wheel before you buy.

Buying a car suitable for the road

Posted: Aug 27, 2018

Calgary is conveniently located to many different getaway spots, from the mountains to the west and the prairies to the east. With good weather, perfect road conditions, and plenty of time, it’s easy to get into your vehicle and get out of the city this summer. Before you go, do you have a vehicle that is fit for the job?

The vehicle you have now may be perfect for commuting to and from work, but road trips are more demanding on your car. When you’re looking to make a new purchase, you will need to consider a few of the vehicle components more carefully:

Is the vehicle comfortable?

Depending on the distance of your trip, you could be spending hours in your vehicle, so you will want to make sure it is comfortable for you and your passengers. Make sure the seats are nice to sit on, and don’t cause discomfort when sitting long term. Look to see if the vehicle can adjust the seats easily for the driver and passengers. You’ll also want to ensure there is plenty of space for multiple people to sit comfortably, especially in the back seat. If you require car seats or mobility aides, make sure there is enough room for a person to sit and also keep a bag or few items near their feet.

For example, vehicles like the Toyota Sienna provide plenty of space and comfort for travellers. With middle and back seats, you can fit plenty of passengers comfortably, and there is plenty of space to add in car seats. The seating capacity doesn’t take away from the storage space, and no one will feel too cramped or close together while driving.

How much storage is there?

Road trips typically require people to bring a lot of items with them from home, like clothing, food, camping equipment, sports gear, and more. You will need a vehicle that can not only fit all your passengers, but all of your belongings as well. Check out the trunk space of the vehicle – is there enough room for multiple bags or a cooler? If your trunk is lacking space, look for additional storage capacity, like a rack on the roof for a thule or canoe rack, or a hitch to attach bikes at the end of the vehicle. Some vehicles might even have more interior storage, like underneath the seats or in the floor.

The Subaru Outback is a popular road trip choice as it offers plenty of storage in the trunk, as well as the option to add racks on top of the car or a hitch at the back. The vehicle itself can sit more than two people but will still provide enough storage for everyone on the trip. This vehicle also offers a lower loading height, so it’s easier to pack bags and boxes in and out.

Will you need to stop at each gas station along the way?

Fuel economy is also a major component you will need to consider when buying a travel vehicle. If you’re travelling a long distance, you will want to avoid stopping at each gas station, and spending a fortune to fill up the tank before you’re vacation has even started. While hybrid vehicles and electric cars seem like the way to go, they are not always as feasible or affordable. However, there are still plenty of used models on the market that use regular fuel but in an efficient way. When you’re viewing inventory at the Auto Club Inc., the vehicle descriptions provide the highway fuel and the city fuel statistics so you can ensure the vehicle you are driving will help you go the distance without using as much fuel.

Vehicles like the Toyota Camry or RAV4 offer great fuel efficiency for long-distance travels. While one offers more seating and storage than the other, both options will make sure you avoid having to stop to fuel up at every gas station you pass.

Will the vehicle keep you entertained?

Driving for hours on a highway can get monotonous, so a good entertainment system is a necessity to make sure you have radio, music or podcasts to keep you alert and entertained during the trip. The entertainment system should be easy and intuitive to use, so either you or your passenger can change songs or increase the volume. A navigation component is also important to help you get to where you need to go, especially if you are unfamiliar with the area. Emergency assistance features are a good consideration especially with newer drivers. For larger vehicles, you will want to check the sound and speakers for all areas of the car, to make sure everyone can have a good listening experience.

The Kia Sorrento has an easy-to-use and extensive infotainment system, in addition to good mileage and a spacious interior. The infotainment system can call 911 or provide emergency assistance, connect with smartphones and provide trip information and parking assistance.

Can you tow your trailer?

If you have a trailer, fifth wheel, or other recreational vehicle to tow, you will need to make sure your vehicle has a hitch and the capacity to tow its weight. This guide can help you figure out the towing capacity of a vehicle by entering in the VIN number, or the year, make, model, and trim. Some vehicles may also come with added features that will help with towing, including rear cameras for hitching up, and extended side mirrors so you can see to the back of the attachment.

A truck is a popular choice for towing, especially for camping, and the Ford F150 is a fuel efficient option for travellers. It can tow approximately 13,200 pounds, and also offers a rear camera with guides to help drivers line up their vehicles for hitching up.

What about the view?

Part of the purpose of a road trip is to take in the view along the way, so make sure that your vehicle has the option to let you and your passengers take in the scenery and enjoy the sunshine during the drive. Look for large windows and extended sun roofs, which will allow more light into the front and back of the vehicle and a better viewing experience. Check to see if there are any protective screens for times when the sunlight is too harsh or too warm – automatic screens are easy to adjust and can allow you to let in as much sun as you want in case it is too distracting to the driver.

The Jeep Wrangler is perfect for enjoying the sun and open air while driving, by not only offering plenty of window space, but also the option of taking off the roof and some of the doors. This offers you and your passengers the opportunity to truly enjoy the scenery and appreciate the fresh air.

Buying used can still be new for you!

Posted: Aug 17, 2018

Used cars often have a bad reputation: many people assume they are beaten up, rusted, and in need of a lot of work. Today, used cars are typically not that old, as many people trade in vehicles after only a few years. Most used cars available today are as good as new, with more benefits than you might initially think. Before you dismiss the idea of buying a used car, take a look at what you would be missing out on:

More financial incentives

The most significant advantage of buying a used car is the lower depreciation value. For most new vehicles, their value can drop up to 40 per cent within the first year to three years of ownership. However, if you are to buy a used vehicle, even if it is only a couple of years old, you will not have to worry about losing the value of your “new” used vehicle. Instead of opting for a cheaper new car, you’ll be able to afford the make and model you want of a used car, with money to spare. Extra money you save can be put towards accessories like a new entertainment system or winter tires. Used vehicles also come with more financial benefits, including lower tax and insurance rates.

No problems to inherit

While it is widely assumed that used car buyers inherit all the problems or issues their previous owners left behind, this can be greatly exaggerated. The vehicles manufactured today are built to have greater longevity and be more reliable. Major repairs don’t happen as often, and while regular maintenance is important, many vehicles can go longer between visits. Used cars from the Auto Club Inc. all come with 152-point Government Safety Inspection and a Carproof. This will detail any previous accidents or incidents that occurred, so it is easy for buyers to know exactly what to expect when they are making their purchase.

The options are endless

Buying from a used car dealership offers you endless makes, models, and styles, a selection of vehicles you are unlikely to find at another dealership. For example, if you like a 2010 model of a certain dealer, you would not be able to go to that dealer to purchase it today – you’d only be able to purchase this year’s or next. However, used cars are available in a variety of brands and models. Some vehicles may already come with some added perks, like a sunroof or navigation system, without you having to add it on. Once you find the vehicle you want, it is highly likely that you will be able to take the vehicle home with you that day – most new cars need to be ordered in and need to be purchased in advance of when you need them.

You can see the selection the Auto Club Inc. has to offer at their inventory page.

Research is easy to find

Buying a vehicle is a major purchase and shouldn’t be taken lightly. Buyers should take the time to research the vehicles they are interested in and consider reviews from others who have already purchased the vehicle. With used cars, this is an easier process because it is likely that many other people have already driven the vehicle. As a result, it is easy to get a better idea of how people have enjoyed or not enjoyed the vehicle, what its benefits are, what could be changed, and more. If the make and model have had any recalls or common problems, this information should be simple to find online.

Buying new isn’t always a safer option

Just because a vehicle is new, doesn’t mean it is immune to failed parts. All vehicles will require some kind of maintenance or repair during their lifespan, whether it is a rock chip or a broken air conditioning. A brand-new vehicle may seem like it will last you a few years, but anything can happen to a vehicle at any time, regardless if it’s new or used. At the Auto Club Inc., buyers can rest easy knowing that their used vehicle will be covered by an extended warranty, that will cover at minimum any engine and transmission problems. From there, a package can be built to best suit your needs and the needs of your vehicle. There is no need to spend more for a new vehicle just so you can avoid fixing broken parts, as you are just as likely to have problems with a new vehicle as you are with a used one.

What is your ideal car?

Posted: July 24, 2018

Vehicles come in all shapes and sizes, and it can be daunting to try and determine what vehicle you want to buy. While it’s important to buy a vehicle with everything you want, you should also consider what you actually need in a vehicle. Determine what aspects of a vehicle are more important for your lifestyle to help you narrow down your choices:

What is your vehicle used for?

It’s important to consider what you are buying the vehicle for. Are you looking for a new everyday vehicle to take to work, sports classes, shopping, and weekend travelling? Or are you looking for a seasonal vehicle that will not see much use? Depending on what your answer might be, you may want to look for a vehicle that will work better based on its use. For example, if you are looking for a vehicle to drive every day and you have a 30-minute commute, you may want to consider a mid-size vehicle to fit all of your daily activities that is also fuel efficient, as you will be using it regularly. However, if you have a seasonal vehicle, you may only need a smaller car for the spring and summer that does not have cold weather implements.

Your lifestyle and how you use your vehicle will most heavily affect your choice. If you play a lot of sports and require a lot of equipment, you may need more than a car. Pulling a trailer requires a vehicle with a certain towing capacity depending on the size of the unit.

Seating capacity and storage

The seating and storage capacity are also important factors in determining the vehicle you should buy. If you have a large family, carpool to work, or regularly travel with friends, focus your search on vehicles that offer extra seating in the back. Remember that most of the time, this seating can be folded down and used as storage when not in use. Different vehicles also offer compartment storage underneath seats and in the base of the car, which is also an important consideration. Vehicles with racks on the roof can also be used to carry storage containers for larger pieces of equipment and luggage.

However, extra seating and storage may not always be necessary. If you are typically driving by yourself, it is not necessary to purchase a larger vehicle on the slight chance you may have to drive others or take a long-distance trip. The extra cost and fuel economy of a larger vehicle with more storage may not be worth it if you will only make use of it once or twice a year.

Parking at home, at work, and around the city

Another important consideration, especially in a city like Calgary, is parking. When you are looking at vehicles, keep in mind how you are going to store the vehicle each day. Do you need to fit in a parkade at home or at work? Do you have enough room in your garage, driveway, or on your street? For example, not all large trucks will fit in a standard size garage. If you park on a busy street, a smaller vehicle may be easier to squeeze into a parallel parking space.

Seasonal and low-use vehicles also require you to think about parking and storing solutions. You may not have room at your home to store a vehicle that is parked more than it is used and may have to consider renting a storage space. Are you prepared to pay that cost or is it more cost effective to buy an everyday vehicle that suits all your needs?

Extras and add-ons: are they necessary?

Most vehicles also come with added perks and features that are nice to have but not necessary. An “infotainment” system (which provides entertainment as well as information like a navigation system and Bluetooth phone connection) is another particular feature that many buyers look for. Having the ability to use voice-guided navigation, call people hands-free, and listen to music on your device may be an important feature that will vary depending on the vehicle. Look for a vehicle that has the system that meets your needs. You can test out different systems when looking at vehicles in person or compare them online.

Other extras like a sun roof can brighten up the interior of your vehicle and provide another viewing point for passengers. However, a sun roof also comes with an extra cost and can even increase your insurance costs. Consider how often you will be using it – if you are mostly travelling by yourself, then you might not get to experience the full effect of the sun roof and it may not be worth the extra cost.

In our cold winters, having heated seats or a heated steering wheel may be important to you, especially if you have a long commute. An automatic car starter may also be convenient for people who park their vehicles outside or in an open parking garage. Some vehicles may also come with all-weather mats that can better protect your car from snow, rain, and mud that is tracked in from passengers and pets.

Comfort and style go a long way

Ultimately, you need to be comfortable sitting and using your vehicle. Different seat materials can significantly impact your comfort level and the way you use your vehicle. Leather seats can be easier to keep clean than cloth seats but are typically more uncomfortable to sit on during the hot summer. A dark interior might also heat up your car more than a lighter one, but it will also show dirt and dust more. The style of the seat itself is also important, and you may want to consider taking the time to test drive a vehicle or at least sit in it to determine if it will be comfortable for an extended period of time.

The exterior style of your car is also an important factor. Typically, we tend to want to choose a paint colour that matches our favourite colours. While it is obviously important to pick a colour that you like, it may not be practical. For example, Calgary tends to get a lot of slush and mud on the roads during the winter and spring, which can really show on black and light-coloured vehicles. If you’re driving on dirt or gravel roads often, the dust may also show up more on different paint colours.

Choosing the right car that fits your lifestyle can be challenging, especially with hundreds of options available. However, by determining what criteria are more important to you than others, you can narrow down what kind of vehicle best suits your needs.

The next steps: How to purchase a used vehicle

Posted: July 12, 2018

Buying a used vehicle is not as complicated as it may seem. At the Auto Club Inc, experienced employees can help customers drive home in their dream vehicle with little to no headache. Once a customer has decided to purchase a used vehicle, the Auto Club Inc will be there at every step in the way to offer the guidance and advice needed to complete the process. Before getting started, here are the next steps customers will need to complete once they have made the decision to buy:

Consider options

There are a lot of used vehicles available for customers to purchase, but it’s important to remember what they want and need in their vehicle. Before they begin the purchasing process, customers should make a list and research what they are looking for, including seating capacity, fuel economy, all-wheel drive and stylistic options like a sunroof, navigation system, and sound system.

Book an appointment

While the Auto Club Inc’s inventory can be viewed at any time, it is recommended that buyers book an appointment with a sales representative before they visit. During the appointment you can speak with an experienced staff member who can offer advice on financing and help compare different vehicle models and options. The length of the appointment depends on the needs of each buyer, so customers should be sure to book enough time to make the most of their visit. Also keep in mind that a driver’s license is required for test driving any of the vehicles, so don’t forget to bring it!

Explore financing options

For customers who are considering financing their vehicle, they will need to do a bit of homework and gather a few materials before their appointment. Financing with the Auto Club Inc is a simple and easy process, with a variety of loan options that will suit each customer’s needs and finances. The Auto Club Inc has partnerships with financial institutions to help make financing for customers as easy as possible.

Customers will need to bring with them a copy of their driver’s license and a copy of their two most recent pay stubs. They will also need to have a reasonable idea of what they can afford to spend on a vehicle. With the Auto Club Inc’s online loan calculator, buyers can quickly determine what they are able to afford when taking into account their other payments and financial history.

Approvals for car loans can also be completed through the online approval application, where customers can get approved for a vehicle from the comfort of their home! However, this should only be submitted once customers have a good idea of what their desired vehicle is and know how they will be financing their vehicle.

Insurance and registration

Once buyers complete the purchase of their vehicle, they will be given a bill of sale. This will have all of the information that is needed to submit to an insurance provider to get the coverage needed for the new vehicle. After this is complete, buyers will receive a proof of insurance from their provider. Insurance is required for all vehicles in Alberta to cover costs of motor vehicle collisions that may be caused while driving. A valid proof of insurance should be kept in a person’s vehicle at all times.

Proof of insurance is also required, along with the bill of sale, to register a vehicle and receive an Alberta license plate. With these two documents, buyers can visit their local registry and purchase their license plate.
